We are most definitely finding ourselves in challenging times. No one would question that. As we continue to build, in order to accommodate our growing population, we are seeing the need to be wiser in regards to the construction and operation of our homes and buildings. Whether in an off-grid location or the middle of a city block, there are a number of considerations that should be addressed before drawing of any kind takes place.
Once the structure is defined, it is much more difficult and expensive to accommodate features that might have lead the design in a completely different direction. The more research and consideration we take in defining our future living environment, the happier we will be in our home, knowing we have looked at all of our options in order to truly build our own home.
In the coming snippets of ideas, I will delve a bit deeper into many of the features and factors that truly make one’s construction journey an informed, responsible and engaging one. Detailed subjects will include the importance of water conservation and purification, waste generation, energy efficiencies, toxicity in materials and other sources, the carbon footprint factor, affordability, material selection and more.
The bottom line is that the more factors we take into consideration, the more complete our final structure will be. All potential options will have been looked at and a truly informed decision will be the result, along with a healthy, sustainable, efficient building. Leading to a healthier environment and healthier inhabitants of the earth.
